    Lunch room conversation.

I was sitting in the dinning room where I work surrounded by colleagues who I consider to be intelligent and world wise.
The topic of beach driving came up and OMG you should have heard the agro.
They were all saying that motor vehicles should be kept off the beaches and who wants to drive on a beach anyway.
I was the only one in the room who wanted to drive on a beach. I told them that I loved beach driving. I have loved beach driving ever since I was a child and was introduced to it by my family.
They said that beaches are for sun baking and that they could not sun bake because of the 4WD vehicles. I told them that people usually sun bake up on the berm and people don't like to drive on the soft sand.
Then it was that they speed on the beach. Most drivers don't speed on the beach as they are aware of washouts. They also understand that people on the beach not able to hear vehicles as the sound of the wind and ocean covers the sound of vehicles.
This went on for a while. Comments being bounced back and forward so exhausting.
It was a shock for me to hear the negative attitude to beach driving. I put it down to lack of understanding of how much fun it is. Oh well... I was in the minority on this one at that time. Just wanted to express my story here.
    Take care,
    saphire.

    g'day
all you had to say to them is: Have you ever experianced it? The answer would have been no, then they could not comment from experiance or factual information

I'd have to say that some peoples opinions are born by a bad experience on the beach with some wally's acting the goat in their 4X on the beaches.
I know I've seen heaps down Evans way doing wheelies, power slides, speeding and going where they're not supposed to go.
Eventually they're going to get the beaches closed through their stupidity and lack of consideration for both other users of the beach and the beach itself.

Well here's the thing. They have beaches open to "bathing" and no driving and visa versa. I really don't know where the problem lies.

There is no reason on this earth that I can't think why the two can't exist in harmony together.
All it takes is a bit of consideration from both camps.

You know that would have been the most logical thing to say, but I didnt. I often dont think of the right thing to say until a long time after the event.

Actually there are beaches where they do exist in harmony together but more for the topic of the lunchroom conversation I was just noting that there are beaches to keep the two separate which is why I don't really know why it is an issue to some in the first place. If they don't like seeing 4wd's on the beach then go to a beach where they are not allowed was more my point.

I think there are just people who love to pick on 4wd owners in general. The mentality is to keep them off the roads but when we use them where they are meant to be used that's no good either. Whinge whinge whinge is all some can do. I actually work with a guy who is a bit into sports cars and I remember hearing him bag me for owning a 4wd. Well today was the day I made him eat his words. He was asking me last Wednesdays if I knew any decent towing companies that wouldn't cost too much money because he had a Toyota Supra (put new motor in but not running yet) that he was doing up that he wanted to move from the northside back to Meadowbrook. My suggestion was to get out of it cheaper by hiring a car trailer and get someone to tow it for him. His reply was "Yeah but I don't know anyone with a decent tow vehicle!" Well der, what about my 4wd? So it was organized for today and the Pajero handled it all effortlessly even going up the Gateway Bridge. He now sees that 4wd's have their uses. Chalk one up for Poodroo.
