Re: Crab pots on the reef.
We have never had any problems with pots on the reef. After rain we used to pick up some muddies occasionally. Coid and bream are also a popular catch on the reef, as well as in creeks.
On an interesting note regarding sharks, or big things with teeth, we pulled one pot up from the gregory river near woodgate the other week. We had it in muddy slush on a rock bar, and something had gone clean through it. Straight throught the mesh into the bait and then out the hole again. any guess? Big cod maybe?
We also put pots in at Murray creek near mackay when we lived up there, andn pulled the wire pot up to find a very large cod that had swum into the side. But it was minus its body. Bitten flush off at the edge of the pot.
We though croc, but a croc would have presumably just smashed up the pot, and ripped the fish.
Shark maybe?
Pity, cause it was a big cod head.
