    Lenthalls this weekend

I'm taking the young fella to Lenthalls this weekend. This will be our first trip to it and only our 2nd attempt at catching a Barra. I've got the Bass covered with Jackalls and spinnerbaits but am not sure what lures would be best suited for the Barra.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Minnows are good, probably around 60 to 120mm, in a range of diving depths, also gotta take a few poppa's in case the Toga are active. The Jackalls and spinnerbaits stand a good change of getting you a barra as well

    Hi Callop,
Ya Jackalls will get smashed!By both Bass and Barra.I'll be there this weekend too,In a blue kayak with an electric.Scoot over for a chat if ya not too busy castin. On my last visit,Both rattlin and silent TN/60s' worked very well.

yeh mate jackals n team diawas r the go. if the rattlers rnt workin try the silent ones. i fish lenthals everyweekend and thats all i use. sometimes i try squidy slick rigs in the blue colour if the jackals rnt working which is very rare. just cast em at the weedbeds n giv em a couple of jigs, couple of winds, then let them drop. keep doing this you'll hav a ball.got 37 barra and 3 bass 2 weekends ago. barra upto 75cm and lost some real nice fish! the fish r getting bigger!!!

Hardb8 - I'll be in the allycraft 10' tinnie with a 4hp Yamaha and the electric. Camping at Wongi on Friday night. Hope to see you.

    Thanks for the info guys.

My only other trip for barra was to Monduran where we used 50lb braid with 80lb leader throwing Barra Classics at the timber. I can't imagine a Jackall on the end of the 80lb.

What line/leader combination do you suggest?

    Hi m8,
I won't recommend anything,As if you try it,And lose fish you'll be swearing my name .But I will tell ya what I've been using.

Combo #1 light :- 8lb Platypus Super Braid with a 32lb twisted leader.

Combo #2 heavy (Not really) :- 15lb Rapala Braid with 32lb twisted leader.

I have only had my leader broken at Lenthalls' once so far.It was a REAL heavy strike. But I'm constantly retying the bussiness end due to frayed leader from the fights.

This (32lb) could be considered a somewhat light Barra leader,But it gives you reasonable abrassion resistance,While not putting off the Bass too much at the same time.

I know my leader WILL be snapped again.(And I'd be a fool to think it won't)But for me it seems to be a happy medium.A good balance,As you just can't choose to catch either a Bass or Barra in this enviroment,And to consistantly catch both is awsome fishing.

    Hope ta see ya there.

great to see some good fish being caught, it makes all the hard work by the frasercoast fish stocking worthwhile even tho we in the stocking group arnt able to fish the dam for research and/or tagging programs or for ourselves.(we all have greater than 6hp)
so in saying that, i hope everyone is recording the fish captures and lodging them with the caretaker at the caravan near the dam wall.
all this info will help us greatly with the future of the fishery we have now

BTW 130mm lively lure barra arafura brown, silver and gold
