    Speaking of Tools

What is your favourite tool in your Garage?

And what is your most hated tool?

Why so and make or brand, of the hated tool.

I don't think I have one favourite in particular, but would use my air compresor more than anything else.

My most hated tool would be me GMC orbital sander.

What a peice of crap, gutless, and won't hold the paper on it, but in fairness never used it within the 30 day money back offer, so my fault.

    Re: Speaking of Tools

Today my most loved tool is my GMC 7 inch variable speed grinder because it made yesterday so much easier than it could have been, my most hated tool is my GMC baby drill press, very poor choice I made in purchasing it.

Once I had fairly good tools then I moved state, if I had my time again they would have followed me here, although I have less use for them now.

Metal lathe and milling machine!! I can only wish, luck bugger!

    cheers fnq

It pays to buy only the best mate, other wise your for ever fixing tools instead of tools fixing your stuff. No luck in buying the metal lathe and milling machine, just plain old hard work. Plus I need them both for rod building, they are both my right hand man in the shop.

    How true is that Stu.
False economy buying crappy cheepo tools.
And as already said by a few...no favourites but my mutli-meter type thingo's are up there. As well as the welders, the metal lathe, the wood lathe, the bandsaw, the compressor and spray guns and the blah, blah, blah.........Oooh my snapon reversible ratching ring spanners are nice to use and I love my Irazola screwdrivers they are so bloody nice too use.
Actually thinking now really sharp chisels are a pleasure to use as well.
    Mmmmm tooolllsss I'm dreaming again
Worse tool. Easy.....bloody cheap GMC battery drill I got one day when I forget the Dewalt. Big heap of puss...I broke it and took it back the next week . Helps been a sparky sometimes
My vices gets a fair old workout as well.

    G'day
Gee Rag, I thought this was a follow on from the other thread of that ski boat.

Anyways, Favourite tool for me is my Hitachi SP18VA, it's the variable speed sander/polisher....... I treat them very very badly and they come back for more.

Worst tool is the gmc 18V dril, mongrel thing, although the gmc grinder is still going strong

    Re: Speaking of Tools

Actually I buy cheap tools to save me good ones.

If i'm drilling and screwing in 100mm bugle head screws in to 200x50mm sleepers.

I have 2 cheap 500 watt drills one for the drill bit and one for the screws. cost 12 -17 bucks each.
Buy the time I have stalled out the motor getting these screws in
I have done over a thousand screws before she burns out.

And I can tell you i'm happy to throw it away for that money,
saves me good machines for more precission stuff.

Good to know what tools not to buy though.

So maybe the intended GMC cement mixer is not the go for me next project at home, being 60 SQM of concrete, before a tile it.
