Thread: Best Poppers?

  1. #1

    Question Best Poppers?

    Hey

I am wondering what's a good popper for Trevally, Mackerel and Yellow-Tail Kings (as they are the species I know are about where I am going).

I have searched the site a bit and most people are saying the 7gm River2sea popper?

    What colours? brand? size?

    cheers

    Re: Best Poppers?

For trevors, try my el cheapo favourite the aussie outback corroborree (sp?) chugger. They're basically the cheapest popper out there. Sell for about 4 or 5 bucks in kmarts and big ws. They're a bit big for your smaller popper-caught species but are perfect for small to good sized trevors and anything else willing to slap them off the surface. Best thing is they are quite heavy and far casting for their size, making them fantastic for land-based fishos like myself. And for my money, they pop far more reliably than some other cheap poppers (SURECATCH!) beacuse they sit flat on top of the water, not bum down. For mine, the only drawback is their trebles can be a little weak, but put too heavy a treble on there and it can unbalance the lure. Hope this helps.

    Hey Voodoo,
If you're chasing large maccy's, trevs etc go for the Halco Rooster poppers 30 gr and up in bonito, white with red head, gold with black back or the old Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper( nothing around that imitates a skipping Garfish better)
    Cheers !!!

In the smaller sizes the Rapala skitterpops are awesome.
In the bigger ones the Halco Roosta pops are very hard to beat.
