to braid or not to braid??
Up until now I have been using a shimano bantam 300 with 4kg Mono for casting lures in the briney and have since been given a diawa 103a millionaire cvz attached to a 2-4kg 175cm custom built Don Rooney live fibre rod by my son.
What i want to know is I was thinking on having a go at SP's and was wondering if I should spool the reel with braid or mono and do you use a leader with braid. If so how long.

Re: to braid or not to braid??
G'day
DEFINATLY use braid, On the reel leave a few metres of monofilament backing, then join the braid (8 or 10lb fireline for your rod/reel) then with the leader, use flurocarbon(vanish), Personally I use 12lb for the eastury and 16lb for the reefs.
There are plenty of knots to use, I jsut do what I know and have no idea what they are called. I was taught them from my old skipper.

I generally use a leader the same lenght as the rod & a uni/uni knot or a albright knot . But definately Braid . Best of luck !!!

Yep braid is tops for lure fishing every move you make with the rod transfers directly to your lure.
