When not out on the boat, I head over to Burrum Heads and at low tide walk the sand bar and there are always good Bream there, best of all, if you have children they will see huge turtles popping up right in front of them, they are there all the time. If you're into catching Mangrove Jack try Buxton on the opposite side of the Burrum River and that's also good. Not sure on how long you are staying at H/Bay but get a map and try these places. I love this place as a half hour drive in every direction up here, there is paradise just waiting and if you ever get up this way to go camping, try Kinkuna Beach off Burrum National Park (near Woodgate), extremely beautiful....I have attached one pic of Burrum River & 3 pic's of Kinkuna for you, one is of the sunrise at Kinkuna and it is breathtaking.

Marlin Mike.... I am from Maryborough (originally from Brisbane) - a little more quiet than H/Bay. Hated it when I first moved here but when I started to really travel around on my weekends, I found how close to paradise this place is. I definitely don't regret moving here.
