Evening guys,

Bit late with this but went fishing early Saturday morning with some of the "old mystery mix" - chicken soaked in tuna oil.

I arrived at around 4:30am and broke out the chicken and cast out; there were some nice looking fish swimming around the old bridge but nothing taking anything that I was throwing at it.

After about 30 minutes I was getting some nice bites and all off a sudden the rod got a bend in it; I set the hooks and the fish started to take some line; after another minute it was subdued and a reasonable size catfish was brought up.

Between this and the next hours when other people turned up, another 3 catfish were brought to the surface and dispatched back into the water again.

A regular guy turned up and was using prawns with not much success; the tide turned around 6:00am and started running out. This bought some Trevally on the bite and the regular guy landing a damn nice GT on 2lb line see the picture below; I helped him to bring the fish up (and still have the marks on my hand to prove it). All up it took him about 5 minutes to subdue the fish to the point I could hand line it up.

He then gave me about 6 largish prawns which I switched to (when in Rome...)
when the chicken was gone. About 5 minutes went by and my rod then went off; about a minute later I had a smaller Trevally up on the deck going about 30cm bleeding from the gills after taking the hooks right down his throat. I gave him the last rights as he was a goner anyway; there was enough for a feed on him and there are no size or bag limits on GT's in QLD.

This ended the day for me and I went home with something to eat all the same.

Saturday afternoon I took Matthew out to buy his older step sister a fishing rod as she had been nagging to go out and she didn't have a rod of her own and her sister wasn't too keen on lending hers - strange how teenagers get all possessive about things with younger sisters

Matt and I went to Bransfords at Clifton Beach and checked out their sale; in the end we walked out with a 7" boat rod spin combo which has enough flexibility to cast and also that will see her through at least 5 or so years for $50.00. Not too bad for a 2 and a half year old and his old man if I say so myself

Sunday afternoon we left at around 3:00pm for the bridge again as there are a number of small grunter in an area that I thought would be good for her to cut her teeth on before moving to anything bigger which might equal a feed.

With all the people there we didn't have much luck till three people at the end of the bridge decided to go and like a shot we moved up to the end where there is a nice deep channel .

After the first three casts; I felt that there were some good bites and I set the hooks on the third bite then handed the rod to Courtney and told her to wind it in. Well, I think that I have a new convert here guys, she reeled in a 10 / 15 cm school Jew which was returned to the water and grow a few kilos

The photo below shows the smile of a happy kid pleased with her first catch of hopefully many more and much bigger.

I managed to get another catfish to bring my weekend tally to 5 (now if I could do that with edible fish...) including a pan size GT. Nothing great to report but could have been worse and better than working!

Pretty pleased that I was able to help the guy land that other GT on Saturday morning; satisfied feeling there helping out another fisho.

Till next time, tight lines!
