    Looking after minn kotas

    hi guys

just got an autopilot riptide fitted up on me boat and was wondering if anyone has any tips for looking after it ? is there a need to flush it out in a bucket of fresh water or a squirt with the hose will be sufficient ?

    cheers.

    Re: Looking after minn kotas

I used to take the prop off my freshwater tiller steer to give the shaft and pin a flush. This motor has been used in the salt for over 10 years, and the only issue is some of the transom mount pins are now looking ordinary.

After I lost a relatively expensive plastic prop through not ensuring the prop was located on the cross pin, and then hitting reverse in bull shark infested murky 6m deep water, I looked for a better solution.

the better solution was to drill a couple of holes in the hub of the prop to allow hose water in, and a liberal coating of lanoline on affected parts.

I also replaced the black nylon prop nut with a big zinc minnkota annode from another motor, but whether that does any good remains to be seen.
