I am looking at buying a boat with a 2002 150hp direct injection 2 stroke evinrude it only has 32 hrs on the engine and looks to be in very good nick any good or bad stories about these engines . Have heard it running and sounds good . Was hoping to get a 4 stroke but cant get everything when buying 2nd hand.
I dont know what you want to know, like all new motors the evinrudes are very good. personly I would be hard pressed to buy another brand motor other than a good old rude (I love them) Just get the thing looked at like anything and get it serviced and Im sure you to will become a rude lover

Hi,
I have a 2000 model 2 stroke 175hp DI. Excellent motor BUT:
1. at about 5 yrs old lots of little things tend to go wrong with motors (and boats for that matter!)
2. I have just had to replace the power pack and optic eye (timing) on my motor (300 hours).
3. DI will eventually fail - how will you cope?. I have been told that mostly the oil consummed through the DI decreases untill eventually motor seizes ... so knowing and monitoring your oil consumption should pick up this problem.
4. Motors very robust and relatively simple and easy to work on by non-experts - like me!!! under the guidance of a guru of course.
5. Of course you have all those wonderful motor sensors to help you if they work after x years ....!
Cheers
