Best freshwater aerail jumping fish in AUS

What fish jumps the highest according to u?

    1) trout
    2)barra
    3)tarpon
    4)toga
    5)salmon

I've only caught barra and tarpon out of the list and i thought the tarpon gives a barra a ran for its money on aerials.

What fish gives u more excitment when it jumps?

    1) trout
    2)barra
    3)tarpon
    4)toga
    5)salmon

4 me difinetly the barra hands down. Nothen beats these big beasts leaping clear out of the water.

Mate I have been reel lucky and caught them all and a gree that tarpon are great fliers, the elusive trout are a great one from time to time, but at the end of the day when a big girl rises from the water the heart rate goes into overdrive. Toga are probably my second choice.

Trout and salmon aren't really an Australian fish. I've caught barra toga and tarpon, I've even seen a bass get airborne on strike. Big barra are the most magnificent in the air but small toga seem to do the best flips and cartwheels.

You left DOG off your list.

Hooked grandmothers terrier in the lip once . Stupid thing used to slip it's collar all the time and chase the sinker and bait where it hit the water.
I have to tell you that terrier on a hand line is better than Barra on a rod any day. It did cartwheels, somersaults, 180's, 270's, 360's and flips like you have never seen. The harder I pulled the better it got. If only I had a movie camera. Nedless to say Grannie was not happy but what a show.

Thats a top idea... I will remember that. Have tried everything else imagine-able, but that sounds fun.

Barra aerials are simply awesome... We never like to see it when your the one holding the rod... But nothing beats a 60lb Tinaroo Barra going balistic through the air in pure darkness.

One of my wifeys work colleagues put us on to a new fishing spot. It was a flowing creek about 4 metres wide. Both myself and the wife tried lures to no avail but on bait the black bream went crazy. I caught 15 and the wife got 12 (I finally beat her). These fish were great fun and a couple even got aerial. Pity they are no good for eating but dam fun to catch!

You left out the best flyer in the sea.................The Mako shark.
Nothing comes close to what a Mako does, not even Billfish.
They totally flip out, Ive seen them as little as 20kg and as big as (estimated) 300+kgs go absolutley mental. Very danderous fish when you are hooked up and they are totally out of control. They have sunk boats, injured fisherman and busted all manor of rods in the process..........bloody crazy, but bloody awesome to witness.

Second to that, or at least a favourite, would be Barra. I have to disagree with ya Theo, it looks way better during the day.
    Cheers
    Jas
PS I know its not a freshwater fish, but I couldnt help myself

Cammac & Matrix- It's fresh not salt guys.

Yeah I've seen a few bass jump too now, and not only in shallow water. My vote goes to tarpon.

    Pete.
