    Hi Phil,
    I've got the part graphite version of this blank, FMT 72 L G, I just did a basic build on it. It s a good rod, but because the tip is fibreglass it doesnt have the same precision casting ability as the more modern graphite styles. If you get bitten by the bass bug and want to make another rod, one of the Samurais eg S002 would be a good start. Personally I prefer to cut the blank back to 170 cm (5 foot 9)
    and use a cork fly rod grip cut in half.

    Daiwa Exceler have Digigear. Not an expensive reel. You will get a bit of Saltiga's taste.
