Some of those seas you need a submarine in order to stand a better than fair chance to survive...... The one second you are still afloat, the next you are part of the spin cycle in a washing machine

I have only once experienced swells of over 15 meters in height on a ship of 170 meters long. The closest land was over 1600 nm away, a relative short swim across a cold south Atlantic. That was probably the longest two days in my life. You first think that you are going to die, then you start to wish that you will die. By the time that you are so sick that you want to just end it all and take a long walk on a short plank, you are physically incapacitated, but you are still conscious and aware of every roll of the ship. Every shudder as the bow plows through yet another small hill. And that was just day one, there was another full 24 hours to go before the worst of the storm passed. I now know why they call it the roaring forties. The furious fifties and the screaming sixties they can keep all to themselves thank you very much.

that irb reminded me of my mates thunder cat! we were out through the sea way the other week and were heading out over waves when a big onshore gust blew the boat over!! bit nerve wrecking, but we righted it and our mate towed us in to get it goin again!!! spose its got nothin on what those blokes were doin!
