    Catching Squid?

    Hey.

I'm planning on catching squid for the dinner table and I bought a green squid jig the other day. Anyway I was wondering if they can be caught in the Maroochy River? I'm also wondering if there is a special method for using the Squid Jig e.g do you jig it like a lure or soft plastic? Or can you just cast it out and reel it in again? Any feedback is much appreciated.

    Cheers.

best is to slow and 'jerky" retrieve, very slow. so it sort of lobs along, most harbours with good deep water will hold a population of squid, but better still is around the rocks where there is some weed and not too much wave activity.

I use the smallest, pink squid jig on the market with great results. Squid have been known to attack pray bigger than them selfs, but I have noticed they seem too go the ones that are smaller.

P\S Dont stand in the water.

Can we get someone creative to model a jig on Tunaman's legs? That way we can just leave it the water and wait!!

I've always found Pink coloured jigs to be the best, and have heard that near weed banks is a good place to target them. I think Tunaman said in his thread about being attacked by a squid that he was using a pheromone spray to help attract fish, so maybe worth buying something like this to spray onto the squid jig ?

hey m8 Ive only ever caught mine from the jettys around Sandgate and Redcliffe and only when its so dam cold you need 3 jumpers but as its been stated the small pink type are the most productive I just leave mine in the water with no action but use a small green fluro stick just above the lure ,I am told that you can get them all year round at the weed banks over at Moreton but I dont take the tinnie that far out (yet). If any one knows of somewhere near Brisbane thats tinnie accesable that produces Squid could you let me know,Chilli squid yummy, good luck, Snas
