    Thumbs down North Pine Dam/Dump

Went out to North Pine Dam (Lake Samsonvale) early Saturday morning to walk the banks and cast some lures in the hope of a Bass or Yella. Parked at Forgan Cove in the southeast corner of the dam and started walking the bank on the right. Threw poppers, hard bodies and spinner baits to no avail. Hooked something slow on a hard body but pulled the hooks (probably a turtle me thinks).

The sad part of the trip was the large amounts of rubbish lying everywhere, particularly along the waters edge - beer cans and wrappers, beer bottles whole and smashed, food wrappers, old broken cray traps, heaps of old fishing line etc. It was really a sad sight to see. There was rubbish everywhere I walked - and lots of it too. I can't for the life of me understand how fisho's can just leave some much rubbish everywhere? They obviously walked in with it and there are heaps of rubbish bins at the entrance to the area. No wonder I didn't catch anything - I suspect the rubbish has either killed or choaked fish stocks in that area.

Not intending to go back there again. Just too sad to see.

    Cheers,

    Gigantor

A couple of months back there was a M&G Clean Up at McGavins. There were about a dozen of us and we filled the rangers Landcruiser full of rubish.
Was a top job by all that attended.
I went back there a few weeks later and you could hardly tell we had been there. Personally i think it is absolutly disgusting the way people leave their sh1t lying around on the banks of this great fishery.

I always take a garbage bag liner with me, even in the remote areas of the dam you will find just as much rubbish. We will never stop these guys from ruining our open space but we sure can do something about by carrying out their rubbish, doesn't take long to pick up some stuff and fill a bag. If your lucky you may find a lure or two. If we continue to do this it won't give them a reason to stop access for the guys who want to fish in the future.

Unfortunately, it's about the only way to try and keep the place clean.

For a lot of us NP regulars, the rubbish bag is a normal fishing accessory.

    50% fishing and 50% cleaning.

On the spot fines would be great but the rangers are spread very thin.
