softplastic flathead guys HELP
after a few softplastic sesions now i'm having trouble catching my 2nd flatty.
i've tried casting in the shallower(1-2 foot) water towards snages on the banks. ive tried casting in the deeper water (2-3m).
ive used different techenques just a slow retrieve, jigging the rod from one side to the other, jigging the rod twice (always allowing the placcie to hit the bottom agian).
using placcies ranging from the leathal pumpkinsead, to pink, green and natural colours mainly minnow gulps 3 inch. with head weights around the 3.5 to 5 grams.
areas fishing are ningi creek, buckley's hole, doonybrook(i got the one and only on there).
what am i missing???? do i fish the deeper water as the tide is low to riseing and the shallows when the tide is high to going out????
going out agian Saturday morn to have another go.
any tips would be appreciated

Hey Neil,
I've had success using gulp 3" minnow grubs rigged on a 1/8th ounce 1/0 gamagatsu jighead simply lifting the rod up fairly quickly then letting the plastic flutter back to the bottom. Also snapback jerk baits rigged to a 1/4 ounce 5/0 TT jighead using more of an erratic retrieve with plenty of pauses. I've caught em' in depths varying from 1m to about 5m.

Hey Neil try fishing around and on top of weed banks just look for sand patches in between . It does not have to be to big it will surprise you were you will pull a flathead from. This works well around the Broadwater.80 mm squidgy fish work well the retrieve i use is a single lift with a flick of the wrist just make sure your lure hits the bottom. Most fish will grab the lure when it settles on the bottom.Hope this helps.

i like to fish on an outgoing tide, looking for banks and drop offs. tt 1/8th jig head 2/0 hook.
pumpkinseed is the proven weapon but there is a new coloue out now, tiger somthing, it is proving to be lethal as well.
i like to cast onto a bank and jig down into deeper water, this for me has been the best tecnique, if the current allows driffting whilst jigging can be productive as well, i normally try and drift through areas that vary in depth from0.4 to 1.5 mts.

HD, I also prefer a run out tide on the weed banks. Any area that has broken weed/sand patches is a good start.
Reason for the run out is the Lizards lie in wait on the edges of the drop offs ambushing bait as they are swept out with the current.
Casting upcurrent of the bank and twitching/lifting the rod up once or twice as the plackie bounces toward the drop off should produce fish.
Try wading the flats putting 2-3 casts in one spot before walking the bank a short distance to re-cast.
Run in tides I find the Lizards will move in closer as the tide is rising to ambush bait in the shallows.
Any plastic colour is fine and best times for me are dawn and dusk. Time that in with the tides and you're on a winner mate.

Neil,
I bought mine from a little tackle shop in Deception bay, however you should be able to buy them from the mart or BCF; i've seen them in quite a few places. They're great becuase it's far more difficult to tear one when compared to a normal plastic, very stretchy!
