    Angry Lowrance 350A

My old faithful Lowrance 350A may be feeling a bit unwell. When first turned on a message appears" Module not responding". A "self test" does not show a problem. However if left on it seems to go through a cold start for several minutes and from then on functions very well. Any suggestions as to the problem would be most welcome.I don't really want to part with her or money for that matter.

I have had the same problem with me Lowerance which was purchase new 9 monts ago, Usually on start up GPS module not responding will come up on the first start and it will take two to three powerups to pick our location. I have been told that because I have a fuel traducer in the network that some times the softwear does not pick up the GPS antena. When I first purchased the unit I returned it several times and Lowerance came back with no explination except that their appears that the network has somting to do with the problem.

The problem origionally only happened on start up. But two or three time over the last month over the cource of the day I have noticed I have lost my location and GPS module not responding was on the screen.

Finally last Sunday morning at 4.30am I pushed the power button and a 1 line message came across the screen "your softwear has been corrupted" and after trying to restart no screen was visible.

On monday I returned the head unit to the retailer and it has again been sent to Lowerance. I have no grievance with the retailer or Lowerance supporting their product but it has been (and still is) an inconveniance.

I Looked at purchasing the unit direct from the US and I would have saved $350.00, With the problems I have had I think it has been the best $350.00 I have spent.

350A, 5 or 12 channel version? But in any case would be getting towards end of practical life and the message would tend to indicate either a failing backup battery or antenna module cable connector/plug corrosion?

The cold start tend to indicate loss of config normally retained by internal backup. Life if backup battery is generally 10 years.
