We will be up your way on the 22-23-24feb, as a member
of the Power Boat Anglers, we have our first ever freshwater
trip scheduled for that weekend, can just imagine all these
blokes turning up in their offshore rigs, and m10 rod with
big shiamo and penn reels , dropping paternoster rig
with 3lb weights on them, should be a laugh for the weekend
hope to see u around that weekend.

I'd love to be there to see it all happening with the club, unfortunately (or possibly fortunately for me ) I will be at Coolmunda Dam, Inglewood that weekend chasing a greenfish or two.

Beware of logs etc if you go north of Kirkleagh.

The troubles with most of these blokes, they only have salt
running thru their veins, but the club in endeavouring to
branch out and include a few different variations of fishing
we now have a inshore brigade catering for the smaller
boats. I think they picked Somerset , so could have that
depth feeling under their keels. hope theres a good roll up
will have a talk to mike cluttterbuck about your suggestion of
a talk. Gary Purkiss suggest we all take yabbies up(salt)
suppose water is water to them , was wondering if they
would surivive if escaped, you could end up with yabbie
banks on the foreshore. you will most likely hear about
the weekend. no sure about taking the rig up into all those
trees up the top end. anyway see u fellas have been busy
releasing some 43000 perch and cod into the dam. do any
of these speices actually reproduce in the dam.

Talking about fish releases, we let 15 000 silver perch go at Wivenhoe today.

Fish breeding? We are hopeful that the Mary River cod will breed in Somerset. There's no reason why they shouldn't.

Fish that definately breed in dams include saratoga, snub nosed gar, spangled perch, catfish (both eel tailed & fork tailed), tilapia, carp, aligator gar (freshwater long tom), banded grunter, sleepy cod.

Silver persh & Yellowbelly may breed in the upper reaches (river) of a dam if there's enough uninterupted river flow during flood times. The only place that that I know of where they do is Beardmore Dam at St George & possibly Lake Maraboon (Fairbairn Dam) Emerald for yellowbelly. We think there might have been a successful yellowbelly spawn in Somerset several years ago, but this hasn't been proven.

Fish that definately won't breed in dams are : Bass, Mangrove Jack & Barra. Also yellas & silvers most of the time. I don't think sooty grunter will either. ???
