hey there just read an email from
Cania dam fishstocking asso things arenot to rosy up that way its come down to fish or people it seems the town folk want the water thats left in the dam to bolster there bores >THIS COULD HAPPEN posibble draining of the last 3000mgl > the draining of this dam would be a disaster for fresh water in fishing in Qld LETS ONLY HOPE THERE IS RAIN ON THE WAY
Hi Cameron,
Things aint the best up there, however if it comes down to people drinking & fish swimming, the fish are going to come off second best & I agree with that.
What I don't agree with, is the dam being at the low level even before the drought started. Sunwaters policy of over allocating water to irrigators, who is some cases only get 5% of what they've been promised & paid for, is the main culprit & this policy is going to come under more & more scrutiny in the future. Particularly as more & more locations suffer from dangerously low water supplies. A decent sort of fish kill could be just what is needed to get some serious action.
Not panic stations at Cania as yet IMHO, there's still 3000 odd megalitres left in there I believe. To give it some perspective, Atkinsons Dam has only 690 Megalitres (a fraction of Cania's supply) & the fish are still doing ok there.
Here's hoping for rain in more places than Monto!
Cheers,
Fitzy..
