Re: Cania
Hi Rosso
Only been there the once, middle of last year. Four of us went for a weekend and we had a ball catching Bass, got one toga but we were after bass as we don't get them up this way. Water level was 4 % at the time, would be good to see it with some water in it.. We got lots of help from a guy Neale Teague who is a park ranger there, nice guy who put us onto fish. Also got a lot of help from the people at Cania Gorge caravan and tourist park where we stayed. An excellent place to stay with everything from Villas to camping. Ph 0741678188. We caught our bass on bass vampires and clouser flies, Slider rubber grubs and spinnerbaits. You will have a good time I can't wait to get back there. Hope this is of some help.

Re: Cania
Rosso, I was at Cania on the weekend around 22 March. Normally the dam is firing for Bass and Toga. We caught two smallish bass on lures and got rained out. Fished late afternoon through to just after dark and then again next morning from just after daylight til around 9 am. Miserable weekend but some other people I spoke to there weren't having much luck either. They said they got their fish by casting into the shallow water and retrieve back to deep.
You may recall the big rains that area had about a month or so before we got there. The damn went from around 3% to around 40%. Maybe this had something to do with it. I hope you like midges, we had to gritt our teeth to avoid breathing them in just after dark and remember don't turn on a light, it only makes it worse.
We had worm baits, surface poppers, nilsmasters, deep Manns lures and a storm lure in a green colour. Very little action on the surface but a lot of fish seen so I guess it was just a bad day. I've heard there is a good Saratoga spot right up the back of the main creek but leave lots of time to get out cos the trees and submerged timber can be a bit hazardous to your boat.
In hind-sight, maybe I should have taken Allan Bishop with me. Last time I took him fishing he caught a nice Barra right here where I live under my nose. I still haven't managed one yet Allan ! Yes it's me, your brother-in-law ! lol
Anyways Rosso, have a talk to Madonna at the campground if you're staying there, she's a very nice person and keeps up with the latest fishing gossip. They sell worms there if you need any. $5 for a takeaway container.
http://www.ausfish.com.au/fitzy/cania.htm for a map of the dam and the spot I was talking about for Toga is that last sharp left turn right up the top of the map and upstream from it.
Good luck Rosso, I'll be waiting for the report.
