Freezing conditions last weekend. No luck Sat evening with surface lures but on Sunday from 9am onwards son and myself caught 13 undersize (25-30cm) bass on deep diver lures. All in the deep water in main channels out from boat ramp. Heaps of fun for my son but amazes me where the large bass in Cressbrook are. (maybe they don't grow).
Wed in the shallows now so makes soft plastics and shallow luring difficult.
But I'll be back.

Ever since about September smaller fish have have been in plague numbers in the shallow water, as well as weed. >
About this time of the year the bigger fish will schooling in the deepwater (40feet+). Best to try and target these fish.
I have found that fishing in the shallows has been best early in the morning

We had a bit of session on their growth rates at the freshwater stocking workshop. Cressbrook stuggles to grow decent seized bass. Somerset was the best of the dams they showed (Wivenhoe would be better but wasn't shown), Cressbrook one of the slowest. Bass are pretty slow growers even when the conditions are good.

Is it known why cressbrook has a slow growth rate?
I have heard that Somerset has a quicker growth rate than other dams because of a high population of bony bream.
Can you confirm this

Bony Bream are the Key too FAT healthy BASS. Judging from that cressy mustn't have a big population of BB as the bass there aren't fat like the ones you see coming out of somerset, bigw etc.., but are more like hinze and maroon bass.
This could be why Maroon and Hinze are very popular for flyfishers as they feed more on insects instead of bony bream. Cressbrook However does have a big population of garfish and have seen pictures of big bass spewing up garfish they had just consumed. The bass still don't seem to be as consistently big bass as somerset or noth pine
Personally, I haven't seen a 40+cm bass at cressbrook for a while but there are reports of some real horses coming out of there. PB for cressy is 45cm
