gday mongrel
from what ive been told the only place in lyell worth fishing is right up the back end of the lake and it is as low as its ever been...only what ive been told. but the source is reliable. u gotta fish either right up the coxs arm or farmers creek arm and fish right near where the water flows into the dam. btw u gotta try a few baits and then wen u figured out wat bait theyre takin use it exclusively... take scrub worms and plenty of powerbait nuggets of various flavours and colours. this is from experience. also fly and spinning isnt bad either.
this time of year the best trout to eat if you do keep em are the male fish as the females are pretty slabby and pale. their flesh has no flavour either so let the females go and keep the males...and coz theyre about to spawn the males are quite agressive and you should catch more males anyway.but be prepared to catch fish from about 1/2lb upto 10lb and possibly bigger as they are in there and this is the time to catch the bigguns. the last time i went there the trout i got averaged 4lb, coxs arm.
cheers
phil
spoke to a bloke who fished there last weekend and saw dozens of fish ....there were 12 fishermen in variouss places and they all caught none
i figured they all must be snap frozen
