    Cressbrook Big Bass

    Evening everyone

Took some Atomic Fat Grubs for a fish at Cressy today and nailed a horse - 51cm fork length, 54cm total. My first 50+ bass
The spot I caught it was
I thought these things were myths in Cressbrook.
    Sorry no photo

Without revealing the spot - what depth did the fish take the plastic. Were you fishing a suspended school or the banks.
Still to get over 45cm but heres hoping.
    Regards

Don't tell anyone but it was the bay over behind the camp area(near the bridge on the walking track). I was drifting in about 20 feet casting parallel to the eastern? bank.
I paused to have a go at the lad(mattman) about his retrieving style and the horse did the rest.

There is somebig bass in Cressy but did you find that it was in poor condition. Chris_j, his cousin and i were out there on sunday and found it hard. The fish were down very deep though we got a few around the edges fishin ratl traps, squidges and on suspended lures in close to the weed beds.

We got a 53 out of there a while back that only weighed 1.6kg (should normally be over 2) and im told that the growth rate for bass is one of the worst in sout east queensland. Thats from the ansa tagging information.

Cressbrook bass dont seem to grow quickly and alot believe it is dew to lack of food. If you go to the larger dams like somerset where big bass are plentiful there is alot of bony bream. And these are prime food. Even there is a lack of gar in the dam now. Maybe they should look at putting some in there!

          Hi jordo

We didn't weigh the fish, but he would've gone close to or over 2kg. He wasn't in perfect condition, but not to bad.

I wonder why they put gar in and not bony bream. Dams like somerset, bigW, moogerah, and north pine, all have good stocks of bony bream and regulary produce 50+cm fish.

          Cheers Matt

            Back Again

went back on wednesday and fished through the rain for a little while and dad nailed a 35cm bass on the same grub. Slow retrieve is the key.

A 3inch atomic fat grub in dunebug colour with its tail dipped in chartreuse garlic scent on a 1/4 0z jighead is what it was caught on, oh no i am giving to much away

            Cheers Matt

Well done on a top fish...

but its far to quiet out there for my liking...most of the fish are sitting on the bottom in 70 ft of water...then there are the odd ones are the edges...there is some better quailty are the edges but still they are few and far between...Jordo showed how its done...suspending lures...

Til the other day it had been a good few months since i had been out there...and now i remember why... Bring on the winter cod anyday

              Cheers

              Chris

Hey chris i went to collamunda on the weekend to chase cod but didnt even get a line wet. To good around the fire with a bottle of bundy. Any way one bloke got a cod that went 73cm. Thats the only one i heard of. Yellas were quiet to. Also my mate went crappy at somerset.
You will have to show me some cooby cod soon.
