Drowning in Cressbrook yesterday
Hi all
Sad news up here. A 51 year old fisherman from Toowoomba drowned in Cressbrook dam yesterday afternoon. Details are still fairly scetchy and name was not released as of this morning. He was alone camping at Cressbrook for a couple of days and had his boat moored near the camping area. Apparently the boat started drifting from the bank and the guy tried to swim out to retrieve it.
Unfortunatly it looks like he became tangled in the weed and went to the bottom. His body was recovered by police about an hour after he disappeared.
The weed on the banks of Cressbrook is great for the fish but an absolute minefield for any swimmers as the weed can be in water up to 8ft deep - from bottom to surface.
You always think the dams are the safest place in the world so it was an unfortunate and sad day for the Cressbrook faternity.
Regards

It was Owen Rose. I am sure most people if they have been around the ridges long enough or fished Cressbrook would have seen Owen before. On the 9 local news it said his body was recovered from 3m of water 40m off the shore.

An absolute tragedy.
One thing many folks forget is that you are not as bouyant in freshwater as in salt.
Exactly the same thing, same scenario, happened at Big W several years ago.

Always a sad state of affairs when a fellow fisho passes away.
I used to hate skiing in Maroon and trying to get out through the weed after a lap.
Not able to do too much skiing now unfortunately!!
