    Boating restrictions at Lake Somerset

The SEQWCorp has issued a boating restriction for Lake Somerset. (Noting that they are NOT Qld Transport or the regional Harbour Master) In short there is no skiing north of Kirkleagh. IMHO there should be no skiiing at Somerset at all but anyway.....

    From their website:
    [hr]Current Restrictions

    Boating Restrictions - Somerset Dam

Boating restrictions are currently in place at Somerset Dam. Current lake levels are at EL92 (Elevation level of 92 metres, Australian Height Datum).

Please direct any enquires to the Lake Wivenhoe Information Tourist Centre regarding these restrictions on (07) 5427 8100.

Please refer to the attached map.

    Hi fellas

Fitzy although i've never fished somerset i am sure that is a good idea. I fished leslie on new years day and the water skiers were most inconsiderate and didn't mind doing a few laps through were several boats were trolling >. Is it possible that similar restrictions can happen at leslie as it is only at 6% and there simply isn't enough room ???

    Hi Matt,
While SEQWCorp operate Lake Somerset I'm not sure how legal their proclaimation of any boating restrictions are. To the best of my knowlege the only ones with the authority to impose such on any Crown Waters in Qld is Qld Transport & the relevant Harbour Master.
Leslie Dam is operated by Sunwater. I think they could ask Qld Transport for a restriction to be put in place for a specified period. Dont know how successful it would be but well worth asking the question. Would add some weight if the local fish stocking group and/or fishing clubs were in support.

IT MAY BE GOOD FOR US & SOME BAD BUT, I RECKON THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL AND THATS JUST MY OPINION THAT SPEED LIMITS WILL APPLY TO SOMERSET OR BAN ON PETROL AS PER WIVENHOE WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN. I KNOW YOU ARE CLUED UP ON THIS STUFF FITZY, BUT I JUST HAVE A FEELING.

I STILL CANT UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CAN USE PETROL POWERED CRAFT ON SOMERSET, WHICH WATER GOES TO WIVENHOE AND WE STILL CANT USE PETROLS ON WIVENHOE. I ALLREADY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THAT.

SURELY LIMITS SUCH AS CRESSBROOK WOULD BE THE BEST ALTERNATIVE

    Hi Darren,
Agree mate. We actually had them nailed down to allowing restriced OBs in Wivenhoe several years ago, all parties were in agreeance but we got sold out at the last minute by an "apprent" representative who had his own personal agenda in mind & not the best interests of anglers.

Dont feel like a lawsuit this month so I'll tell you who next time we're talking (or fishing).

    Hey Fitzy,
Just a question on the impoundments which are electric only,
If you have an outboard on the back and a Bow mounted electric, is this OK? In the case of only running on the electric.
Do you have to remove your fuel tanks or anything to go onto the dam?

That depends on the dam. Wivenhoe its OK, Baroon Pocket its not. Check each and every dam.

    Hi Fordo,
As Lordy said, you are ok to leave the donk on at Big W, but every other leccy lake I know of you gotta take the leccy off.

    Cheers,
