Re: cockburn river
g'day, i have fished this river a couple times whilst visiting relatives. from these trips ive gathered that the majority of fish in it are carp, ive caught a few yellowbelly and spotted a few murray cod at times in the clear water. heard rumours of trout in some places.
cheers luke

Re: cockburn river
Youngfish, the Cockburn gets low with a short dry spell, as it stands now with the severe drought round here, it's nought but a couplea puddles. Once it joins the Peel, at Tamworth, you'll get a better chance of a few Cod and Yella's, Silvers (which of course must be released), and as many carp as you want.
It can be difficult to get access to the river and a canoe or kayak is the best way to fish the meandering holes.
Good water with the occasional resident BIG fish, let em go if you're lucky enough to get a close look......

HI i live near the cockburn and at the moment you pretty much will only ever catch carp at the present there is a bit of a flow but as it was so dry before hand i don't think it will last long i am a member of the nemingha fishing club and every year we release finglins of cod and yellowbelly in it and prey that some might survive so in a few years hopefully the fishing will pick up my husband grew up on it and twenty years ago there was big y/belly and cod but the have all but deplenshed now with it being so dry. goodluck anyway and remember if you catch a carp kill it don't put it back.
