My fatherinlaw was telling me that there is a lot of water between them. He also says they use dead baits to catch them.
I would have thought they would be using lures or live baits.

Live baits,dead baits,lures or spinners can be used to catch them.I use dead baits(mackerel injected with cod liver oil) to catch mine,even caught one on a perch rod set up with a worm on & just got it in the net before the line broke due to lack of trace.
That thing looks prehistoric.
