A mate and myself went up on the long weekend fished from about 3:30pm till 11:00pm and back into it at 4:00am till 11:00am didnt get a bloody touch but thats fishing . Night fishing seems to be popular in 1-2 meters of water using silver or gold lures.
Good luck mate you will need it

Think you might find that Awoonga has had alot more barra stocked than Lake Prossy. Over 2 million now I think.

Awonga can be very dificult to fish (as i found out on the weekend) we fish very hard for 3 different sessions at various times of the day, only a couple of fish into the boat for my mates that stayed out into the night but not even a touch for me.
there is a fresh running into the dam wayyyyy up the back from the headwaters so maby thay have gone up into it.
who knows, good fun company made up for the crap fishing.
the dam has,as fitzy said has had about 2million Barra put into it compared to Faust's much smaller number,i think bouth dams are around the same size,so where the suckers have gooooone is a mystary that needs to be worked out /fished a whole lot more.

would this dam be fished much more than prossie? maybe its over fished. I would be thinking though if they are getting alot of rain there then the barra may have taken a run up stream into the fresh which you mentioned brett. Is the spillway running over? That could account for a fair few more dissapearances. Have you tried fishing the bottom of the spillway? or any of the creeks running into it? This is where they will all be.

    Brett,

I remember reading an article once where someone was debating the merits of releasing big barra after catching them in stocked dams. Basically they were suggesting that the original big barra just sat there getting bigger and bigger from feeding on all the released fingerlings. It was suggested that you would end up with a wider range of sizes, more catchable fish and a healthy turnover of the gene pool by taking the big ones out.

Any comments or thoughts on this?

    Cheers

I have heard the mouth almighty ate a good percentage of the early release fingerlings.

Shit didnt know that about numbers in comparison to prossie!!....Someone told me the other way round....So Prossie must have much bigger barra for being stocked longer is that right???...Both dams sound alright...Yeah fitzy i fished prossie the same different stages of the day and night and still didnt raise a scale....Oh a 50 cm sooty thats a first for me so im not complaining...Ive caught barra before just not as big as what they are at prossie!! Good to see im not the only one thats lucked out recently!! Cheers
