Jungle Perch & Sootie's

Has anyone got some info on fishing for Jungle Perch & Sootie's, mostly between Ayre and Cairns. Fairly new to this style of sport fishing so any help would be great.

Tully gorge and the south johnstone are my 2 favourite rivers but there are a few around rollingstone and other places. Sootys are thick as in these places and you can catch them on any small hardboddy diver or popper or soft plastic. the bigger ones are deeper though and in around the dark edges in shadows. Go to south johnston or tully and just wade and swim along from water hole to water hole as long as the river isnt running too quick. Jungle perch are pretty common in both these places and the more remote and hard to get to the spot is the more jp there is. They love poppers about 40-50mm long and not popped very much but more wriggling across the surface. South johnstone has alot of small jp and tully has alot of big ones, biggest ive seen caught was 46 cm. If your really keen and have transport i can put you onto a mate who will be happy to take you around these two rivers and show ypou the ropes.

Thanks for the info Tim. I have the transport if your mates got the time. Unfortunately I can't PM you until I have made ten posts. Have only really got a couple of fly rods and a small overhead set-up. Really need to invest in a light spin outfit.

Mister Twisters, Frogs and yabbie patterns are great for JP's. There are plenty of fast flowing Rainforest Rivers in the Douglas Shire that harbout these critters. Using a canoe is a great way to target them if you can't walk the bank. Not many Sooties up this way though.
