another fish kill in macintyre river
cod are still dying in the macintrye river.cod up to 60lb were found floating in the river today.we buried over a dozen cod, yellowbelly.it is a crying shame to see these fish floating as it has taken years of hard work from the fishing clubs to get the river to where it is today.and no one seems to know why they are dying.

BILLY DO YOU KNOW WEATHER DPI KNOWS ABOUT THIS KILL IF NOT SOMEONE WHO HAS SEEN THE RESULTS OF IT SHOULD REPORT IT SO TESTS CAN BE DONE ON THE WATER ITS NO GOOD TO ASUME THAT ITS LOW OXYGEN LEVELS OR SOME OTHER NATURAL OCCURANCE WITHOUT THE WATER BEING TESTED PROPERLY IT COULD BE SOMETHIN AS BAD AS SOMEONE DUMPING CHEMICALS I HOPE THIS IS NOT THE CASE BUT NOW LOW OXYGEN OR DEADLY ALGIES CAN JUST ABOUT RULED OUT SINCE THE RAINS :GOODOO

good point goodoo,
also the fish should be looked at as allot, I mean allot of fish of varying species have been PIT tagged and had radio trackers surgically inserted. DPI can still gain valuable info from these fish regarding migration, growth and survival rates.

I had a look today and it looks like really bad blue green algae. The local fishing inspector and council have organized to try and net as many sick fish as possible and release them into Lake Inverell which still has clean water.

fisheries seem to think it is a combination of blue green algae and hydrogen sulfide gas been released from rotting weed that has sunk to the bottom of the river when this happens the oxygen is taken out of the water causing the fish to suffacate.full praise to the local fisheries officer for organising a fish rescue for fish that havent died.
