Somerset in the wind?
Can anyone tell me what Somerset Dam is like with these strong winds that are forecast for the next few days. Looking at heading there tomorrow but not if its going to be as rough as the coastal waters. Only ever fished it with light winds. Been lucky so far.
Cheers

G'Day Sniper,
It's a big expanse of water,if the winds get up look out, mind you there are places where you can shelter from the wind but bare in mind you have to get to these shelterd areas, mate have alook at it and go with your gut feeling,I have to say I have had some great days fishing on Somersault in windy conditions,if you have to travel a long way to get to the Dams and the prediction is for windy conditions I would consider staying at home, Cheers Whitto

Re: Somerset in the wind?
I use the wind to my advantage when its blowing there. The wind usually follows the gap in the mountains & runs either straight up or down the lake. I take advantage of it at these times & setup for a long drift in the main basin jigging spoons, tailspinners, ice jigs, blades etc. Bass there will take big things like 80gram Raiders & Halco Twisters so dont be shy to tie in something heavy to stay down at the depth you want. Match the weight of your jig to the strength of the wind for starters (helps you to keep your depth where you want it) or use a sea anchor to slow you a little if too fast.
Hope that helps,
Fitzy..

Re: Somerset in the wind?
Went for a drive out there yesterday. Was blowing about 25-30 kts at home on the Sunshine Coast. Seemed to be blowing about 10kts gusting up to 15kts. But still not totally convinced as to when to head up there again. If this wind drops out int the next few days I'll definatley be heading up there. Thanks for that little tip to Fitzy. Never thought about trying that technique. See you all on the water
