    Freshwater Novice

I have moved to Oakey west of Toowoomba and as I have lived most of my life on the coast I am at a loss to start fishing freshwater so any help with fishing locations and methods would be appreciated very much.
As I do not own a boat land based options would be great, everything I read on the subject of fishing around this area seems to require a boat but I will try anything.

There are a few dams near you. Cressbrook and Cooby reservoir to name a couple, aswell as big W and somerset a bit thurther east. I've caught bass from the bank at cressbrook and seen people catch fish from canoo's there so getting a boat as such is not completly necessary though it would make it easier. Haven't fished any of the fresh water section of the brisbane river yet but I've heard that there is fish to be caught in there aswell. Beacon to beacon has maps of most of the stocked dams in SEQ if you have a recent copy. Putting a shrimp under a float, lures, plastics and spinnerbaits will all produce fish when casted in the right location.
