Cressbrook - advice needed
Hi Guys
Dad and I are tring Cressbrook next weekend - to check it out before a comp in a few months.
We have never been there before, so I would welcome all tips and hints.
Does Dad have it right?: SIP , $2 parking, no camping, max 6 hp and 8 knots?
We are focussing on Bass. What do they eat there? Is there Bony Bream? What colours, lures and techniques work?
We are a pair of learners - trying to catch up fast, so any advice would be appreciated.
Finally - do you go there via Toowoomba or Esk?

Heres a link with a bit of info for you.
Looks like camping is ok.

Haven't fished there myself, so can't be much help with your other questions.

I don't think there is bony bream in cressbrook but there is gar and spangeled perch. My most productive catches at cressbrook have been from dropping live baits near structure (ridges on the bottom, weed banks and the occassional stick). I've only caught one fish trolling at cressbrook but i have been told by other people that its the way to go. So pack a variety of lures and spinner baits and try to find where and what the fish are biting. It might be benefitial to practice this as several comps don't allow baiting. It's been a while since i was last up there but if you can cast surface lures over the weed banks at dusk/night time without constantly retrieving weed than you might catch a couple of bass that way to. Oh and to my knowledge there is no limit to hp but yes the 8 knot limit applies.

Hey gary
I have fished cressbrook a fair bit and have had most success on soft plastics around the edges and in the shoals of fish deeper water. There are heaps of undersize fish around but with perseverance you'll get the better sized ones.

SIP needed
Camping at the camp ground
$2 to get into the dam.
No hp limit,4kn near the ramp, 8kn elsewhere.(signs near boat ramp showing nogo zones,no fishing zones)
You get there via Esk or Toowoomba or Crows Nest.
Best of luck

Re: Cressbrook - advice needed
Did I hear someone say Cressbrook?
Its pretty much been my playground most weekends for the last 3 years...Great little dam, can be a bit frustrating at times though (mainly due to speed limits and undersized fish.)
But Anyway, I take it that you will be fishing the BASS electric comp? If so I'll be out there with a mate in a Black Edgetracker with a Loomis fish on the side of it...
The Fishing side of things, where do I start? Many different way to catch fish at Cressy, Spinnerbaits, Soft plastics, Surface lures, Hard bodies, Fly, Jigs and just about anything else.
Different times of year different approaches, At the moment we've been doing well on spinnerbaits and surface lures late afternoon around the weedbeds.
Suspending lures and surface are two of the most consistent bigger fish patterns, well worth considering when chasing your bag in a comp....
Spots? well different days different banks/spots hold the fish, just got move around and find them and what they are eating...also good when you do find a pattern that you move around to find the bigger fish...
Hope this is of some help to you...I won't be there this weekend, Going to the coast chasing whatever with eat my plastics...
Cheers
Chris
