If Kingaroy is your usual haunt, you have three excellent impoundments to choose from, best fished from a boat, but plenty of good fish still occassionally get caught from the banks in dams. They are; Bejlke Peterson near Murgon, Boondooma near Proston, and Sommerset near Kilcoy, I personally haven't put a bait in the water for years, but your best bet for bait is the humble garden worm, and shrimp if you can get them or as a last resort, peeled prawns can do the job at times.

Gidday
I fish Bjelkie Petersen dam near Murgon and Borumba near Imbil. As mentioned by another fish are caught from the bank but I reckon a boat is a neccessity. We tow lures such as Scorpian 55's and 90's for Bass and Golden Perch or cast spinnerbaits at likely habitat. We use both 4lb and 8lb tackle depending on weather conditions.
Be aware there is a learning curve that doesn't end

Have a read through Fitzy's website http://www.ausfish.com.au/fitzy
And don't forget you will need a SIP (Stocked Impoundment Permit)

Re: help for newbie fisherwoman
Oh well there's always next time. Sometimes an entire dam will go off the bite but if you look hard enough you'll find fish. Its not uncommon to go a whole day with little results. It will make it all worth while when you get snotted by a nice bass or yellowbelly. Keep at it and it will pay off.

Re: help for newbie fisherwoman
Karen,
Fishin the fresh is a whole different ball game to the salt, you could get lucky and stumble across a few of the secrets, ie: you are really wasting your time without a good sounder and the ability to read raw data rather than fish symbols, with out it you are fishing blind, etc etc etc.
If you would seriously like to discover the delights of the Fresh, my best suggestion for you is to dig into the purse and find enough to pay Matt Mott for a charter on either Bejlke Peterson or Boondoomba. Alternatively, if paying for a charter is not your cup of tea, I have been known to take the odd newbie out to introduce them to the fresh, only catch is, I pretty much only fish Sommerset (as I have a house there) and I don't use bait. But the offer is there if you would like to take it up.
