Fishing Brissie river
If I went in a Kookaburra park today and went upstream, could I expect a chance at a bass or two, or do I need to head out to Lowood/Fernvale ?

G'Day Bungie,
There are bass around Kookaburra Park & Colleges.
Heading up from Kookaburra is ok, just be carefull of the rocks at Johnsons Rocks at the narrow section before you get up to Venus Pool. Going up on the high tide is definately advisable.
Good luck.

I would suggest Lowood or fernvale, as a better choice

Re: Fishing Brissie river
getting past the catfish at kookaburra and the weed at colleges would be my major concern :p
we'll probablly be heading out there in a week or two so give us a yell if end up catching decent.

Re: Fishing Brissie river
went for a fish in the river on the first property below the wall on sat. landed 7 bass between 10cm- 36cm. The owner tells me a guy drags his canoe up there and fishes too close to the wall be careful guys she'll bust you. seems to be too many small bass in there, time for wivenhoe to spill over and bring some better fish down.
cheers Luke

Bumgie
There are only two walls the one for Crosby weir or the spillway common for Wivenhoe dam. At a guess i think the crosby weir is the one Luke is refering to.

Re: Fishing Brissie river
Didnt think you could fish down stream for something like 400 metres ??

Re: Fishing Brissie river
Think the following is correct.
-No fishing 600m below the wall at Wivenhoe.
-No fishing 400m below & 200m above Mt Crosby Weir. No public access allowed from Kholo Bridge to Mt Crosby weir (effectively a no fish zone)
-No fishing 50m below old Mt Crosby Weir.

Re: Fishing Brissie river
Fitzy,
Sounds correct from memory, but isnt the old weir pretty much where the closed water section from the crosby weir ends (ie. 400m down stream) ?
We made a trek down there a few months back, trek being the obvious word. Parked at the crosby weir and hiked down the bank (watch out for those darned turtles when you're forced to cross sides of the river).
We caught a few largish lungfish, though nowhere near as big as the one you posted a photo of recently fitzy, released obviously since they're a protected species, and a few other misc / unidentified fish (big, silver, yellow fins, lots of sharp teeth).
Not a bad area to fish, but decided it would be better to leave all those lungfish alone and fish elsewhere. The idea of fishing near a wall (not that near .. but you get the idea) almost falls into the cheating category ... that is, if any of you have a cheating category
