Thread: Freshwater Lures????

    Freshwater Lures????

??? Am planning a short trip to the Upper Brisbane River soon and was wondering what lures (hard body or SP's) and colours might work the best up there at the moment?

Am planning to put in around the Twin Bridges area near Fernvale (below Wivenhoe Dam) in my canoe.

Any tips, advice etc. would be much appreciated? I'll give a full report afterwards.

    Cheers, Gigantor

    gday mate
never fished the brissy river but you can't go past the little rippers or smack 16's or 19's for yellas or bass.

    Hey Gigantor

Dont forget to pack a few spinner baits.....stick with the smaller ones.
And just a tip ....virtually throw em out on the bank or as close as you can. Literally knock the bark of the trees and any logjam/pile..........knock down the front door.

    Good Luck

    Re: Freshwater Lures????

Thanks to those who responded to my query. The report on Saturday's expedition is....

Arrived just before sun-up and was met with an amzing sight. Fog hovering above the water line and calm water. My mate and I worked the banks with surface lures and then spinnerbaits as we headed east without a lot of action.

We finally got to the first set of rapids a couple of K's down the river and tossed lures around the swirling waters. I hooked up and then quickly got snagged by something very fast. I was using a 3" squidgie in natural with a bit of scent on it.

On the return paddle back to the Twin Bridges area we trolled spinnerbaits and the mate got slammed by a reasonable Bass (picture attached), which was our last catch for the day.

Though we cast our arms off during the day our catch rate was small. But we won't be giving up and will be heading back that way soon. We hope to try and get in further down stream from the Twin Bridges area next time (anyone know of any good maps of this area that shows roads etc. so we can find an entry point for the car and canoe?).

    Cheers,

    Gigantor (& Markus)

    Re: Freshwater Lures????

Sorry for not attaching the picture, as suggested in my report (above).

Was unable to meet the maximum photo size of 100kb, even after reducing the shot with the help of the computer software.

I guess this is the down-side of using 5.0 megapixel digital camera (there's a limit to how much you can reduce the size). In future I will be dropping the shot format size on the camera when fishing. Ya always learn something new don't ya!

Anyhoo will be heading up to Big W in late July with the canoe to hopefully hook a Bass or Yella or three. Will give ya a report in early August - hopefully with pictures that can be posted?

    Cheers,

    Gigantor

Hi Gigantor, try Paintshop Pro. You can get trial copies from mag discs or from the net at jasc.com (no I'm not a share holder ... just think it's a good program)

    a. Click on image and then resize or use Shift+S
    b. Make it 640x480 pixels
    c. Click on colours and then decrease colour depth
    d. Choose 256 colours
e Save it as a jpg or gif file

That should downsize it a bit.

    Cheers

    Gigantor,

If you are running windows XP you can download a plugin from the Microsoft website. It is a great little tool and all you have to do is right click on an image and then select the size... Very handy and way way quicker than any editing software...

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx and download it there, it is called imageresizer.exe and you can find it in the right hand column

Thanks Kilkenny for the offer at Maddock Dam, though have a prior commitment that week end. Also as I'm heading to Big W at the end of the month, it's difficult to get a leave-pass twice in the month. But thanks for the offer just the same.

With the help of CQ Freshie I've been able to reduce the picture size, as per my report above. Nice bass this one.
