years ago my brother inlaw used to breed those lovely red wrigglers for his garden, he told me years later, I thought he was breeding them for my trout bait, cause they worked well,
Used to keep them in those old concrete wash tubs and covered in hessian bag,
probably no help
cheers

I don't but lots of folks here do. They make a bundle of cash doing it as well. Think about it. A dozen nightcrawlers cost about two dollars. I don't want to think about what that comes to per pound. More than the priciest of lobsters I should think. Heck, the Colombians should quit growing cocaine and raise worms! Higher price per pound probably!

Vortfu,
I have a commercial worm farm bought from mitre 10 for around $50 and breed my own. Just feed them anything from food scraps vegie peels, weeds etc, virtually any thing that once grew exept meat and eggshells. They grow big and fat and are good for bait.
I have night crawlers and blood worms in together and they breed like crazy.
Hope this helps!
Julie
Not sure what part of the country you are from but I have a few rellies who absolutely love coming to my place for a visit.
They did up my garden everytime.
We have a few shrub gardens that we have mulched with sugar cane mulch. It keeps the moisture in and we had huge red wrigglers by the bucketful. I have tried the night crawlers in the commercial worms farms but they do not match the wrigglers under the sugar cane mulch.
I got myself an old bathtub and put in a couple of dozen garden worms a couple of years ago, and now they are breeding like bloody rabbits, I put in shedded paper, grass cuttings and old food waste, and they absolutely love it.
Im never short of worms when it comes to fishing, but the only downfall is that they are very small, so Im thinking about getting some juicy BIG scrub worms and whacking them in as well.
