BP Dam this weekend, Any Tips ??

    Hi Guy's,

Doing a run up to Bjelke-Petersen Dam this Friday for a 3 day bash out of Yallakool.

Just looking for a few tips on targeting Winter fish from this Impoundment. Have read that the Bass are being caught by casting Spinnerbaits and Rattletraps around the weedy perimeter of the Dam.
Any advice on Lure size and colour as well as type of retrieve would be most welcome.
Should I take the SP's & Ice Jigs and look for schooled fish ??

Will post a report with photos if we do any good

Are the ramps still operational with the current water level or will I have to get down into the gravel ?

    Cheers
    Craigie.

There are plenty on the sounder in the deep (was there on Sunday trying out my new Zercom) but they wouldn't bite. The deep fish could be just a day to day proposition and if they decide to bite it would be champagne fishing like September with the amount there. Around the edges or trolling spinnerbaits have been the best options. Fish seem to be sitting too deep for normal trolling. Downrigging might be an option. Usual spinnerbaits for us these days are like 1/2, 3/4 or 5/8 oz size. Colours are day to day but always have a white, a purple and a black one. These can be bought at Yallakool of course. Young Scotty is right and both ramps are well in the water.

    Thanks for the advice guy's

We did it tough to say the least. Sunday was a right off, cold and blustery, only saw one boat on the dam. Saturday morning was a "Pea-Souper", Fog covered the dam until 9.00 am, could not see 10 metres in front of you.

Tried extra deep trolling with Blitz Baggas and Predatek Boomerangs, getting them down to 25 + feet where the fish seem to be sitting but not a hit.
Threw Slidders and Spinnerbaits around Bass Point, Lightning Ridge and up towards Treasure Island. Got a few bumps/nudges and did manage to fluke one solid 45cm Bass on a black/Gold half ounce Spinner bait.
Other members in our party scored a few fish on Bait, small live shrimp from the kiosk being the prefered option.

Didn't see Motty around on the weekend, so couldn't pick his brain for a few tips. I believe he was out on the Dam today with a charter also finding it hard locating willing fish.

Will plan a trip back around september/October, bit of practice for the "Golden Lure" Comp

    Cheers Craig.
