Just also out of curiosity when using eels as bait for salt water fish, are they better alive or dead? And what fish could you catch with them and what size eels do you use? I'm gonna goto fraser with my family and they are big fishers they might give shark fishing ago..

I lost a few hooks to those bloody eels over the weekend down from the old weir at mt crosby. there wasnt a chance in hell I was going anywhere near them to get the hooks out so I had to cut the line as close as I could.

Squirming and slimeing and what not. Looks too much like a bloody snake for my liking. *shudder*

yes have caught a few on lures in the dams with bass lures, moogerah has some monsters and they will bust you up, leaving the tell tail slime as a calling card.

I think I would sooner catch an old boot or the flu.

eeeeeeewwwwwwwwww..... eels : i wouldn't touch one. If one ever gets on my line, they can have the hook i don't want it back. They are clearly one of the grossest creatures ever thought of. Now i'll gut fish and clean them out or anything, but an eel..............:-S

not bad in a fish tank though. used to have a couple in a 4 ft tank and they used to take food from my hand (got bitten few times though) Only one day my grandma found one that had crawled into the kitchen - my dad then dcided to get rid of em

I agree Maria - they do taste quite good smoked. The trouble is getting them to the smoked stage - slippery little suckers!
