    Some more tutorials at http://www.humminbird.com/generic2.asp?ID=374

If you're running in raw sonar, you will get arches or part arches depending if the fish goes directly thru the centre of the cone or the side. If you are travelling slower, the fish will be in the cone longer so will give long streaks across the screen as shown above by Whitto. If you are travelling at trolling speed, echos will commonly come back looking something like this
    .
You can clearly see fish (bass in this case) holding just off the bottom with a ball of what is probably daphnia (micro-grazers) coming onto the screen. These bass are packed in pretty tight & are in ambush/rest mode. A prime target when they're packed in like this. Was about 20 or 30 fish consistently showing in this small school. About 15 or so big bass were caught before they scattered.

In this pic you can see (ignore the GPS trail on the left of screen) alot of slashes. This (slashes) is more commonly seen than true arches. Many folks tilt their transducer down slightly past horizonal to help keep a lock on the bottom at speed. The pic was taken on top of a school of small but active bass at Moogerah with some bait sitting in around 15ft.

Thankyou Whitto and Fitzy for the photos. My little portable Humminbird 128 has never shown me stuff like that, no matter how much I fiddle with it. I guess I've been left behind again
