    Borumba on boxing day

Heading to Borumba early on sunday morning for the day. Just a few q's to anyone whos been up there since the rain. Has there been much grass submerged by the rising water and if any toga are on the bite. If anyone else is up there say hi. I'll be in a 14 foot formosa hull with a 30hp yami on the back and a lecy on the front. We'll probably be fishing kingaham creek.

    Hi mate,

went fishing up there last week and concentrated up the Yabba Arm for Toga's, however only had one strike and miss. I saw plenty on the surface and also found a few schools on the sounder, however were very shy. The day was perfect and the water temp was 27 degrees.

I tried everything from fly to lures, in all colours and shapes. Maybe too close after the rains and the water had also risen, who knows.

Hope is good for your day out and keep us all updated on how you go.

    Tight lines...

Thanks mate, the plan is to focus on the edge of any recently submerged grass will plastics and spinnerbaits and then focus on bringing some bass out of the timber. If we can get any shrimp we'll try floating some livies.

    Re: Borumba on boxing day

Anyway not a bad day on the water, decided to go only lures today as a bit of a difference. After an hour or so throwing round hard bodies I made the switch to platics. Following the plan of casting at the freshly flooded bank a few minutes later i was on and loosing a bit of line so i thumbed the spool in attept to turn its head and splash a 50+ toga leaped from the water and spat the hook. Anyway we stayed in the same spot for the next hour or so with several togas rising up around us and often sight casting at them, but with only one other solid hook up but yet again i failed to set the hooks. The togas went quite so we started trolling around in the sticks for 3 solid hook ups one resulting in a nice little bass which blooded my new baitcasting outfit. At about 1 we moved into Borumba creek and started working the sticks with spinnerbaits, crank baits and plastics. End result two fat 40+ bass. Probably the most action filled day for the fewest fish ive had, between the two of us we dropped 4 bass, 2 togas and landed 3 bass, simply put the fish were a bit shy most of them throwing the hooks just after getting turned or hiting the tail of the platics. The water was warm and dirty, ranging between 27 and 29 degrees. The bass were sitting on a thermocline about 3 metres down, but the togas were right up in the shallows. Well worth a try for anyone who wants some hard hitting bass as they've got plenty of go with the warm water, but you might want to wait a bit as the camping ground was about 3/4 full by the time we left this afternoon (that means plenty of ski boats). Lures that did the damages was a brown with black striped smak 12, 1/2 ounce white smak spinner bait and 2" and 3" powerbaits in rainbow.

This bass hit like it was another 10cm longer.

i know what your talking about with the smaller bass hitting hard i had a shot two months previously and was just on the bank near the boatramp and consistantly hit bass from 6inches to 12 and each time i thought they were at least12inches to 18 hitting so energetically that ithought i'd lose the lot when i played them into shore. bigger ones around near the submerged fence tothe right of the ramp thought they were too shy and the risk of losing my jet spinners was too high. if you want to kill some time and just have some fun you don't need a boat to have a great day on the shoreline i hit most of my bass between 11am and 2pm and they were about 3meters down in the thermocline as you stated. thankfully for me there were no ski boats on that day only kayaks.
