Hey fellas as my brother lost my rod on the last trip out to the dam im in the market for a new rod and reel so i was just wondering what sort of rod\reel should i get im chasing bass with hardbodies in borumba and usually use a 2-4 kilo rig so any pointers would be appreciated

p.s. doesnt matter weather a combo or not and preferably a spinning rig
well it will depend on how much you can afford and how much you are willing to spend
but to give you a ider you could have alook at something like
shakespeare synergy or abu garcia morrum braid rod for around $80
shimano squggiy or raider rods for around $115
right up to your dear strudwicks or loomis for $300-$1000
pair them with something like a shimano shara or symertere for around $120
diawa klastor for around $180
right up to you shimano stradics and above or dawais if thats the way you swing
and they are up around the $300 and above
For a rod basically anything thats graphite, fuji guides and seat cork grips and well backboned. The live fibre lightning spin sticks are nice. Either the 6'6" 2-4kg or the 7' 2-4kg (strike 9 or strike 10) should go down a treat. Reels anything by daiwa or shimano is good also pflueger and penn make a few little spinning reels that are worth a look. Basserman is getting ripped off for his price on the daiwa kastor though. $150 is the going price at most of the marts at the moment. My new opinion of daiwa is don't buy there gear unless you want to spend $250 plus in order to get the 5 year warranty. Though there gear is equal to if not better than other makes they are not competitive in this field like shimano or penn etc. All my reels are daiwa (a capricorn 2500, a millionaire cv-x and a samarai 7i 1500). I haven't had the first two for a while but after about 18 months the samarai has developed corrosion in the top bearing that sit above the one way roller bearing and now winds with a bit of noise bit still is smooth as before. It has taken lots of salt water dunkings and landed lots of fish and i wouldn't expect anything better performance wise for the price, I haven't had the other reels long enough to comment to much but the capricorn has an exeptionally smooth drive and the millionaire casts very well.
That pretty much covers all i have to say on spinning rigs. Unless using very small hardbodies (less than 6-7 grams) i tend to use a baitcaster (i have two bass rods for my millionaire for heavier and lighter lures/spinnerbaits)

unfourtanly i don't have any of them nice discout store only little tackle shops so my prices will be a bit dearer
as for the samarai i have the excatc problem
mine is used on my kayak rod for the kayak so it did get a bit wet but nothing more than the occasial splash but it ended up with the same bearing problem and same noise after about 6 mounths
i like shimanos alot better but thats just me but i agree you can't go wrong with either dawia or shimano
This might sound weird but im not really familiar with live fibre lightning spin sticks so about how much is one gonna set me back and do they have them anywhere on the coast(kawana fishing world,davos)etc

Your obviously a young fella and I assume not exactly flash with the cash, for the money a Daiwa Procaster X IM7 Graphite rod for around $120 - $130 is great value, as for reels the Daiwa spin reels in the $120 range are also pretty good. I bought a Sure Catch BKF 630 6 ball bearing spinning reel for $49.95 the other day reasonable looking reel for the money and if your brother is gonna drop them in the drink on you, you probably won't get a chance to wear it out.

live fibre lightnings cost around $130. I have a 1-3kg 6ft wilson soveriegn which is very simaliar to these rods (ie the larger models) to tell you the truths its possible that some of the rods are the same plus cosmetics but lack the fuji guides (crucial piece of hardware) but are i little cheaper. I recently replaced all of my guides on the rod with fujis acrinates (spelling) as they had started to break. I think i heard a flathead report a while ago by someone who was using a strike 10 and then seemed impressed (think it was cloud 9). I got a strike 11 the other day (7ft 3-6kg to match my capricorn) for my trip up to baffle creek i'll let you know how it performs. Theres plenty of other posts aswell in the tackle, saltwater and freshwater section all asking about this style rod but i think you'll find they all say the same thing.
hi fellas ended up with a pfleuger im8 graphite thing with a shimano reel was gunna get a strudwick sicstick pro but the falla at the shop talked me into the pfleuger all up it was around 220 with reel but hagled and got it for 190 with a spool of 10lb fireline went down to the marooch river right after i bought it and got a 37cm bream on a dropshot around those new little jettys at cotton tree
