gday baserman
ive fished split rock and chaffey never fished keepit but i know most people fish it with 6-8lb mono. in chaffey i fished with 6lb fireline and used it to good effect on the smallish yellowbelly upto 1kg and in split rock i fished 10lb fireline and still got busted up by a nice cod 15lb plus i watched it hit the spinnerbait at my feet. and peel off about 5 or 6 meters of line to get back into his hole and then bust me up. depending on how youre fishing will determine what you use. bait use 6 or 8 lb fireline and spinning 10 or 14 would be the go.
put simply fish with your bass gear when using lures in chaffey, small 5 cm rmg scorpions are fantastic here... and use heavier gear in keepit. with both lakes fish the rocky shores/points. for yellowbelly. for cod you really need a boat especially in chaffey. keepit cod are reasonably common around the wall. 20lb fireline is the go for the cod as they really are powerful fish and fight like hell out of these lakes.
anyway hope this helps and good luck. btw about now these lakes have just risen a fair bit and the fish have been feeding up on worms big time...but by now the fish will not touch a single worm so fish with shrimps or yabbies if you fish with bait, but i woudnt even consider even goin out there for at least another 2 weeks. that way the fish will be getting back to feeding normally.
cheers
