???bought a light spinning out 3 weeks ago to fish for bass.I bought 8lb fireline and 14 lb vanish leader.Th e problem i'm having is i am unsure of what not to use to join the 2 lines.Hope someone can give some direction here please. > > > ???

Uni to uni or albright knot
If you use a uni to uni make sure you double up the braid to prevent the braid cutting through your leader . The uni to uni knot will not slip but as i said before it tends to cut into itself where as the albright knot will slip before it breaks (roughly 80% of the main lines breaking strain so it shouldn't be too much of a problem as you tend to set your drag at max 35-40% but normally 20-25%). You'll find that most people will use either of these knots.

Uniknot to uniknot has been the best for me so far. Particularly for smaller diameter lines.

A mate has also changed over to this after using the albright. He found that the albright knot kept getting caught on the runners, which created overruns on the baitcaster when casting.

The uniknot to uniknot seems to create a smaller/smoother knot and doesn't get caught on the runners when casting. The doubling of the braid tip is a new one to me, but worth a try.

As previously mentioned, you need to re-tie these knots on a regular basis. Particularly after a good fight or yanking the lure out of a tuff snag.

I've only just started to double the braid in my knots but i have already noticed that it has increased my knot life substantially. In particular when using 6lb and 10lb braid. It also gives far greater knot strength, closer to the 100% when using the uni to uni knot with mono line.

I have a few fishing mates who have problems with their bimini double looping aroung eyes on the cast and have found a knot similar to the double uni called the stren knot (apparently much stronger). Go to www.stren.com to see how to ty it. Another tip is to (as before) double the braid section first before tying the knot and just trim the tag from the double when finished.

if ur fishing for bass u really dont need a leader. i never use one and havnt had problems where i have needed a leader. not using one is better IMO

Depending on the lb of your mainline!

tru, i use stren 10lb line most of the time, but i have reeled in a 6lb bass on 4lb line. it all has to do with how u play the fish.

I have been using a bimini on braid for a double for years now and have never had a problem with it looping over the guides. My doubles are only about 30cm long though. As for not using a leader, you are a more adventurous man then me.
