Bought a couple of Jackals the other week and have used them twice. And twice have caught nothing on them.
I caught 82 Bass one time and 69 Bass the other, which were all caught on all techniques from fly, plastics and Twin Vibe lures.
I used 65mm Jackals and as I said caught zero. Are they the wrong size or what? What are your thoughts?
The first cast with one of them, I got snagged and almost lost the Jackal lure.
Great lures for catching fishermen
As far as fish catching is concerned, no different from any other...
By the sound of it you are using the TN60. This is the same size that I usually use. There is also a TN50 which is a little smaller than the 60.
I am not goin to rave on about how many fish they have caught for me, because I would be here all day and night listing them all. My favourite colour schemed one is almost white now due to the paintwork being worn off!
I find I get best results by slow rolling constantly...not stop starting...kill and burnin...or any other technique. When fishing amongst weeds many fish hit on the drop!
Keep trying with them because they are worth it and they do work. Yes, I do use spinnerbaits and other lures as well, but only if the fish in question aint interested in the jackalls, which is hardly ever!
As for the snag issue, I dont go under 20pd leader when using jackalls because at $30 each they are a expencive loss. Though I have lost about 5 so far and yes it does hurt. But you dont buy a lure in the hope that you will never lose it. You have to expect to use it sooner or later!

Personally, I am a very big fan of Jackals. From the first time that I 'swam' one, I have been pleasantly surprised with the results. I use TN60s in Cressbrook, as the bass are generally smaller than the average bass located in other impoundments, (such as Somerset, for example).
It is a concern that they are so expensive, and as such, I am very selective about where I use them.
To be fair, with so many lure options available to us now, you're better off just finding which lure/technique works best for you and your location, and terrorise the buggers with that!

A group of switched on fishers hit Eungella Dam's Sooty Grunters just before Christmas and the most successful lure was a Jackal. The Sooties arn't normally that selective but the Jackal lure noticably outfished everything else. I don't use em myself coz they're just too expensive but if they were a bit cheaper I'd use em for sure

I admit $30 is alot of money for one lure! the but rewards are well and truely worth it. Instead of buying a lure for $15 (as most are) why not hold off on the purchase and wait another week then go for the jackall...you wont be dissapointed!

They are not $30 a lure and if anyone pays that ,,,you gettin ripped off. Ring around they are approx $25 - $26
I am yet to find anyone up my way that is selling them at that price. They maybe $25 on the coast but I cant see the point in spending $5 (maybe more) on fuel to drive down there to save $5 on a jackall. Just doesnt make sence to me!
Yeh but if you went for a drive youd grab a few to make it worth while. Mind you 25 bucks is still way too much for a lure
when you can get others that work just as well for half the price.

I can relate to your comments. Since Jackals have come out, I have developed a fetish for bibless lures.
I'm thinking of selling all my bibbed lures on Ebay as I never use them and so I can get more bibless ones.
I rate the Jackalls but I have found other lures to be just as effective if not better for cheaper money.

Fish are smarter than they make out. Give em a couple of years and they'll catch on and will turn off jackals and you'll go back to your good old bibbed lures until a new product comes onto the market. The fresh water scene has gone from spinnerbaits to plastics to jackals within a year. I wonder what they'll come up with next.

maybe you have got a bit confused. I know at BP they have been trolling spinnerbaits for a little less than 18 months.
I believe Motty and others are having good success trolling Jackells. Will dive to 10feet + on a slow troll. Keen to get up there and try hanging one off the downrigger ???
