With you all the way. You should see the brain dead halfwits that we have down here at Mulwala and in the river. If only these idiots could see what they are skiing over!
Group of d#*kheads almost capsized me with wife and kid in tinny. All were drinking stubbies. Where are the boys in blue? Checking Fishos.

Still, rather be fishin than sitting at home!!

    Re: Inconsiderate Skiers and Wakeboarders

I recently fished an ABT Bass comp at Maroon dam with 40 odd other boats. All the boats were fishing the edges leaving the wide open spaces of the centre of the dam open for the skiers. It was not windy and there were no areas that were smoother than others. One absolute Moron took pleasure in purposely zig zagging through the stationary fishing boats. How close was he??? At one point his skier tried to spray my boat, and was within 15 feet of us. Another time I was sitting talking to another competitor less than 30 metres apart and he towed a skier between us. At one point he cut my line with his prop, unfortunately a $28 Jackall was attached.
His Rego is NZ580Q, and he is an absolute tosser.
This photo has been forwarded on the authorities however I'm doubtful that much will be done. If you see him, give him the finger for me.

From personal experience when we go skiing we do have a circuit that we like to follow...that way the skier knows which way the boat is going to head and when its going to head that way. And to get a good lap in that requires a large amount of water! But if something (fishing boat or other craft) is blocking that circuit obviously there would be a slight change in plans...A quick deviaton and the job is done. Pity not all think like that hey.

But as a fisherman I also know that I could be fishing against the bank or out in open water. I choose to fish in the open water therefor I should expect to get boatwash from other boats in the area...especially ski boats. But I do not expect the boats to pass close enough so that I can tell if they have a runny nose or not!

I admit that some skiboat drivers do seem to gain pleasure out of passing as close as possible to the fisherman. But like I said before...there are always the idiots...just like on the road!!!!

We don't ski at Somerset anymore, but when we did we used to put all the gear in the boat and go find a spot to ourselves! As the spit area can quite quickly become overcrowded and at times dangerous!

So getting back to fishing the open water...(now think about this before shooting your mouths off)...Don't you think its possible that the skiers think that is slightly inconsiderate! "Of all the water you have to fish in you choose to fish right there in the middle of nowhere!"

Another thing that used to happen a lot when we were skiing is this. Every man and his dog knows that if the skier is in the water (just off the bank) with ski grip in hand, the boat is getting ready to go and pull the skier out of the water for a quick lap. We all know what that looks like whether you are a skier or not...so...How about when you are at that stage and a slow moving boat cruises past trolling lures, or casting. right in front of you totally blocking you in...I would call that inconsiderate!

I do realise as said above some people seem to have no idea just on how far 30mtrs is. But I have been buzzed as close range (less than 10mtrs) by high powered fishing boats before as well. Some fishing boats you see on the water will match it with some skiboats for heavens sake!

Paul commented on the licencing for skiboats. You can drive a skiboat with the same licence as you can for a 3mtr tinny! But I do recall when I went for my licence I walked out thinking it was a complete waste of time and money. The licence system is a joke and it should be majorly overhauled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We could go on bagering about but all the other points made by you good folk revolve around one thing (and you all said it)...IDIOTS! Skiers are like fisherman in the way of staying in their local water! If you paid attention to what boats are behaving and what are not, you would find that its the same boats that are ruining it for everyone! Skiers have their favourite holes too so to speak. So as mentioned before, if you have the chance take a few digi photos of the stupid behavour and report it...If the officials get too many reports in regards to the same boats they will have to act!!!!!

I know since all of you are soley bass fisherman you probably wont take my points seriously, But if both parties don't think about the problem it will never be fixed!
You put your words together well Leigh, but your blind faith gets in the way of reasonable thinking. At Moogerah a few years ago there was an ABT Comp which had a shotgun start. With the Boating Patrol's permission an area had been bouyed off for the start. Skiers in the general area were advised of what was happening. Well threefunny things happened at the gun went off at 7.00am. About 50 boats took off flat out, a ski boat who had been advised of the start time and process dragged a skier right past the front of the bouy line, and the poor stupid brain dead idiot standing of the bit of wood at the end of the rope lost his balance and fell off. I was a touch annoyed, 'cause I'd just fitted a new Stainless Prop, and could have quite easily dinged it on the bit of granite this moron was using for a brainl.

Law is Law Leigh!!!! 30 metres is and always will be 30 metres. If your intellectually challenged water skiing friends cant judge 30 metres they shouldn't be driving a boat, and if they are, they should learn to duck marbles!!!

    Re: Inconsiderate Skiers and Wakeboarders

It was Waterskiers, Jet-Skis, Boaties who sped aimlessly back and forth all day, and hopelessly dis-organised people at launching ramps who eventually caused me to sell my last powerboat a few years back.

I can now fish happily under "paddle power" in creeks, shallow areas, and Lakes like Wivenhoe or Samsonvale where high speed powerboats can't access and I don't even have to use ramps anymore.

Much less stress, I can tell you !

    Re: Inconsiderate Skiers and Wakeboarders

I can't see the point of going around and around in circles towing someone around and wasting all that money on fuel. What do they have to show for it? Nothing! I'd rather spend my money on fishing gear. At least you can see and touch that. You can't with exhaust fumes.

    Re: Inconsiderate Skiers and Wakeboarders

    Today

At Maroon, 5.30 am Ski boat dragging wake boarder. Had the whole middle of the dam to himself, but no this d#@khead went around the edges, well within 30 metres to me. Everytime he came towards me I gave him a look, a swear these guys purposely fell off right next to me just to p#ss me off! Loud music as well!

A mid week fish is the go.

Or I think I'm going to fish at Cressbrook alot more now, I think the extra 1 hr drive is worth it to get to a dam with no skier wankers.

    Re: Inconsiderate Skiers and Wakeboarders

In the past, the Maroon skiers were very considerate, then Moogerah lost all it's water and the w@nkers had to go to Maroon. Wasn't a white hull with black roof rack (Why the hell you need a roof rack on a boat I'll neva know) towed by a red Club Sport R8 was it???
