CLARRIE HALL DAM

I am off to Clarrie Hall Dam over Easter to chase a few bass.

Any reports on recent trips to the Dam would be appreciated.

Fished it on Sunday, for one fish between 3 over 3 hours.
The water at Crams farm end is looking brown and low in oxygen, probably better to run down the dam past the Narrows. There are good lily pad edges all over the place.
As always can't help loving the scenery.

By all reports I would give it a miss. Clarrie has apparantly rolled over towards the wall end (due to the mixmaster maybe not working). Got reports of slow fishing around crams farm end and the water just gets dirtier the further up you go, and as a result the fishing is even slower.

If any dam is badly affected by a roll over it would be Clarrie. Just hope a big fish kill doesnt result.

John if your still online before easter, an alternative would be a run out to Toonumbar behind Kyogle about an hour from Clarrie.

Great spot stopped there a couple of times even broke down at the top of it. Really fun way to get down the bottom with hardly any brakes

on toonumbar you can use petrol but on clarrie hall it is only electric!

Returned from Clarrie Hall this morning.

I had several morning and afternoon sessions on the Dam over Easter. I know little about dams or freshwater fishing but the report that the Dam had turned appears correct.

The water level of the dam is less than a metre below the spillway wall. Throughout the length of the dam the water was heavy with suspended sediment. So much in some areas that the sounder could not sound bottom.

There were only a few boats (maximum 3 per session) out fishing on any day. I caught about ten undersize bass over the weekend on lures, mainly trolling. The darker coloured lures (black and dark brown) being more effective. One of the other boats had some success with black spinner baits.

it seems that theory number 473 is still running strong...dark water = dark lures!

But to only catch undersized fish just shows how a rollover has affected Clarrie Hall.

Did you see many dead fish floating at all??

No dead fish, but the infestation of salvinia weed is still spreading.
