i am going to head up to monduran this weekend i was wondering if anyone has fished the dam on the weekend or last week. if so how is it fishing and what techniques are being used

I was just up there on the weekend and had a ball. Got 5 barra in the boat and my mate got 2. I was using a b52 in silver but the main think was to find the warmest bay's possible. Between the two of us we dropped 7 more fish. The biggest went 73cm and the smallest was only 68cm.

Like Jas said find yourself a nice warm bay, best fishing over the last couple of days as been from about 2pm onwards as the water warms up a bit. Shallow diving lures like B52s, RMG's and Mars are the go.

We've had some success with Lively Lures Arafura Barra's in Gold and Bleeding Mullet. Shirt lifter pink is a good colour up there too. The new Halco 120DD's in gold are worth a chuck around too.

I have a bow mount on my boat and found it to be a very usefull tool in the snags. It didn't seem to put the fish off as they were nailling the lures at the boat. I had the boat in only 6ft of water hooking up the barra in about 3ft. Hope you get a few.

Do you need to travel far from the ramp to find fish. I am hoping to do a trip up there soon in my Kayak. I am happy to paddle an hour or so to find a good fishy location. I will only be targeting fish in the shallow bays in the warmer water and in standing timber if not to far away.

Congrats on the barra, looks like a good 95cm+ barra. I am glad to hear they can be caught close to the ramp. Is there lillies etc in the lake? most of the pics I have seen are in the timber. Do the shallow bays have weed bed etc?
It will be interesting hooking a barra in the kayak, I will get towed around a bit. Look forward to the challange.
When does the lake start to really slow down or can you pick up fish all year round. I know during summer the barra are more active. I spose the key is finding the warmer water and active fish!!

persistence is the key and the fish move around a lot. i would try around the boat ramp mate the afternoon we where there a bloke in a kayak tagged three . i have noticed that the electric motor on the tinny is a must so the kayak would be the goods. water temperature is important and we have caught most of our fish in the shallow bays but we have been severly smoked in the timber early in the mornings
