Just wondering if anyone fishes for bass at night on any of the dams. We fish for barra here at Lake monduran at night and was wondering if it was worth freezing my butt off to chase bass at night over winter.
Cheers Foxie

yeh we do chase the bass at night however they are more a summer night surface lure action than winter
in winter they are like alot of other fish and seem to hang deeper in the water and less likly to hit a surface lure how ever it may pay off working deepdrop off with spinnerbaits and sp but might find it alot hard than daytime fishing
Have to agree with Basserman on fishing night time over the warmer months of the year.
Had a night session at Maroon dam a few years back with Fitzy as our guide.
What a hoot...got 50 fish in 6 hours all released except a couple to take home for a feed.
I must say this is bass fishing at its best...what an adrenaline rush when those bass rise up and smash the surface lures in complete darkness.
Cheers Brent

have done the summer thing with surface lures and agree it's a reel buzz. I guess I'll just have to pull on the beanie, fill the hip flask with rum and give it a go. I will keep you posted on the outcomes.

Hi All,
have you found when fishing at night that the darker/black lures fish better than the glow in the dark type ???. Obviously the glow in the dark type can help when casting a baitcaster and see it hit the water preventing a overrun.
I am of the opinion that black lures are better on a full moon situation and glowies are better in the no moon phase.
Any other opinions?
Cheers
Aaron
aaron what we have found to help with that is to buy some of that glow in the dark tape and stick a bit on the lure to help with the casting but not that big that it will turn the fish off so some thing like a 1cm by 1cm bit of tape stuck the the back near the head not the tail
Hi guys
I too throw lures in the night for bass, however im not fishing a stocked dam. I fish a freshwater river that winds through the country in nsw. I have found during the summer months on the hot nights the bass can be a blast but in the cooler months i do alot better. As i posted in the photo forums in past couple of weeks ive taken a 53cm a 50cm a couple around 44cm and a mate caught a 50cm fish the ame night i did. And let me tell you it was bloody freeeeeezing! On average 5 out of six nights we are hooking into big fish and loosing more than we are landing. We mainly use noisy surface lures in the dark such as producers with the propellors on the ass. As for the lure colour i use mainly black as i think they are striking at the noise and vibration and on lit up nights it just the shape they see.
For moon phase i like a few nights after the full moon till just before the dark.
If there is rain on the way i usually do a bit better too.
