Broadwater State forest creek
Hi all you freshwater fishing enthusiasts
Just discovered fishing IS allowed in the Broadwater State Forest(outside of Ingham) so now I am looking for tips on lures/tactics to use on the Sooty grunter that inhabit the creek. I will be taking a 4kg spin outfit. What do I put on the end?

Re: Broadwater State forest creek
Use to hang out around abegowrie a fair bit and have fished in the broadwater a fair bit. Been pig shooting around there as well and nailed some nice boars. I have used little poppers with great success in there. Have also used small hardbodies like micro mullets but poppers seems to be the way to go. Have caught some muge blackies in there especially around rapids and the backwaters. There are also small barra in there as well and JP though the JPs were fairly timid. Catch one and the rest wont bite at all. As for plastics well havnt hada go but cant see why they wouldnt work.
Have you thought about fishing the upeer reaches of the herbert. Very good for big barra and blackies though more dangerous for crocs. Good luck

Thanks for that devocean
Only going to the camping grounds so will just take the rod and walk through the bushes along the creek for a fish. Have not fished for sooties before but last time I was there you could see them boiling just under the surface. I will go out and invest in a couple of small poppers for the trip. Have some small nilsmaster spearheads and terminators-do you think they are in the ballpark?
Have fished upper Herbert before and YEs there are a number of very large lizards around there but that is another story.....
Will let you know how I go.

Re: Broadwater State forest creek
Just an update on the camping trip. Camped the weekend of the 28th. Weather great and scenery even better. Spent the weekend exploring the creeks and managed to land two sooties, biggest being 32cm. Casting by sight to fish is unbelievable and certainly a great rush. Water was bloody freezing though. Both fish were caught on a halco 1m diver in a xmas beetle colouration. Both fish were released. Water level was down a bit so not sure if that affected the fishing at all. Spotted a lot of small jungle perch too. Next time I will be better prepared and researched. Sorry no pics as I wasn't game enough to take the camera in the creek with me. Highly recommend the spot for those wanting a top camping/fishing spot.
